Welcome to Jasmine Class. We are one of two Year 5 classes at Hillmead School. Our teachers is Mr Evans and we are also supported by Mrs Gibbs and Mrs Evans.
Today was Children in Need Day. We wore spotty outfits and had cakes at break time! We also did some English work which linked nicely to our Children in Need! We needed to change adjectives into adverbs to describe what Pudsey was doing!
This week we have been learning about The Gingerbread Man. We have sequenced the story and then did some drama to retell the story.
Today we received a poem and a box of resources. We needed to make 3D glasses to find out about the link between knowledge and skills. When we had finished we looked at a special slide and found out that Knowledge + Skills = Understanding! We are going to try hard to use this in our lessons!
In our English lessons we have started to look at Poetry. We started by looking at how a poem looks on the page and then did some performance poetry. Here are some photos of us performing the poem ‘At the Zoo!’
We have been learning about how a two digit number is made up of tens and ones. We call this place value. We played a game with our partner to see how quickly we could get to 100!
This week Primrose class have been busy watching their bean plants grow.
We wrote bean diaries and couldn't believe how quickly they've grown.
We now have healthy runner beans with roots, stems and luscious leaves!
What a busy start to the Summer term we have had! We had a wonderful introduction to our new topic 'I'm Alive' as we enjoyed making our very own terrariums (miniature gardens). In maths we were learning how to tell the time to the hour and half hour and we are zooming along with our phase 5 phonics. In English we are exploring free verse poetry and are learning how to compose our own colour poems.
Primrose class had another busy week! We have been enjoying poetry in English and exploring rhyming couplets. We had a go at composing our own short poems in groups.
We also really enjoyed our trip to the church for our Easter Service where we shared our beautiful artwork to the school and our parents.
In DT we were using the plans that we made to create our final roly polys. Mrs Neal could not believe how confident and independent we were!
This week Primrose class took part in a drama workshop. This was based on a jungle adventure. We wrote some descriptive sentences using our senses and also composed our own adventure stories. We were also very busy practising for our Sharing Assembly this week.
This week we have been exploring subtraction in maths - counting back on a number line from 20 and by using tens frames. We also had a really fun Design & Technology lesson where we joined wheels to axles using different joining techniques!
To start our new topic we tasted different fruits and vegetables. We thought about where they came from and which we liked or disliked.
