Year 3: Violet Class

We are one of two Year 3 classes at Hillmead School. Our teacher is Miss Hibbins and she is supported throughout the week by Mrs Coleman, Mrs Walsh, Mrs Allport, Mrs Evans and Mrs Hammond. When Miss Hibbins has her planning time, Mrs Evans teaches us.

In PSHE we have been thinking about how to be a good friend and the importance of looking after others. We built our tree by identifying on the trunk how someone being bullied might feel. We then explored what we could do to help someone who was being bullied.

We have begun writing our “Little Red Apple” story. It has been tricky at times to split our story into the correct parts and ensure we have included enough detail, but we have persevered and Mrs Suttle is very proud of them all!

In maths we worked on finding the difference.

This week we have explored the impact of exercise on our body in Science. We considered the importance of exercise in making our muscles stronger and our hearts healthier. We also realised just how tricky it was to count how many star jumps we can do in a minute!

Friday 5th October 2018

In English this week we have been thinking about poetry. We have read a variety of different poems and have explored our own, focusing on using a variety of adjectives to add detail.

Friday 28th September 2018

In science we have been considering the basic things that animals need to survive – food, water and air. We designed homes for the animals which we needed to ensure had the basic needs, as well as considering the other things the animals might want to stay healthy and happy.

Friday 21st September 2018

We enjoyed encounters of the creepy crawly kind. We were very lucky to meet lots of interesting animals including a very scared little meekat!

Our science lesson today was taught to us by two visitors from the company BP. The lesson was called ‘Handy Helpers’. We learnt about different types of gloves, what they are used for and why they are good for some tasks but not others. We were allowed to wear the gloves and then we described their properties. After that we tried making towers out of Lego, playing tiddlywinks and making play dough models. These tasks were easy with some gloves but almost impossible with others. We had lots of fun.
