Welcome to Bluebell Class. We are the Year 3 Class at Hillmead School and our teacher is Mr Wisbey. We are also supported in class by Mrs Day.

In DT this term we have been learning to join different materials together. We have used these skills to create our own fabric faces.

In PSHE we have made these gingerbread people to celebrate our differences.

This week in science we continued to learn about our senses and we explored the sense of smell.
Friday 27th September
Today in maths we were learning to represent the numbers to 10 in many different ways.
Today we got to play some with some toys from the past, including 'Star Wars' and the game 'Perfection'.
Wednesday 16th September 2019
We had a visit from a company called Spirit of the Wild and we got the chance to see a variety of animals. Some of us even got to hold them or feed them.
This week in Bluebell Class we have been learning all about the story ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. We spent some time painting our favourite characters from the story and made some puppets to retell the story with our friends. We have also used the story to practise finding rhyming words!
This week in Bluebell Class we have been learning about Diwali. We talked about how Diwali is the Hindu Festival of lights and is celebrated all around the world. We have enjoyed learning about the story of Rama and Sita and had lots of fun designing and making our own Rangoli patterns, salt dough Diva lamps and Mehndi patterns!
This week we in Bluebell Class we have been reading the story ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson. We have been really excited about Halloween and took inspiration from this story to make up our own potions and design our own broomsticks! We have enjoyed dressing up as our favourite characters and retelling the story with our friends.
We have been looking at different sea creatures this half term and have made collages of our sea creatures. We have been drawing lines and circles on our whale outline with chalk and pastels. We counted eight legs for our octopus mobiles. We also looked at ways of making eight. We shared many sea stories, our favourites were 'Hooray for fish' and 'The rainbow fish and the big blue whale'.
We visited Boydell's Farm near Braintree. The farmer talked about the animals on the farm.
We met 'Toffee' the cow and had a go at milking her.
We fed the lambs with small milk bottles and stroked them very carefully while they sat on our laps.
We saw how the farmer looked after the pigs. We also met the chicks and stroked them.
We saw a very large turkey too !
We had a great time.
We have been busy creating our 'On The Farm' display. We have been looking at animals we may see on a farm.
We came up with a selection of animals. We made collages of these animals.
We also practised many skills such as cutting and painting.
We have been making our musical instruments during the past few weeks.
We made them out of junk modelling materials.
We played them to the rest of the class.
We followed a steady beat with Mrs Panesar.
Our vehicle project
We have been making our vehicles and are very proud of our models.
We made some observational drawings of our vehicles too.
We dressed up on 'World Book Day' as a character from a story.
We read some of the stories the characters were from.
We had lots of fun !
We have been adding details to our model vehicles. We have been using junk modelling materials to make the lights and wheels. We aim to display our vehicles once they are completed.
We have been listening to different instruments in our music area. We have been listening to high and low sounds. We have been making a pattern with our sounds.
We have been making traffic light biscuits today. We thought about the order of the colours on the traffic lights.
We went outside and built a bridge.
Colourful rainbows
We have been painting rainbows and mixing colours.
We made purple today by mixing red and blue.
We made our own colour strips.
Colourful Elmers
We have been looking at all the colours Elmer the elephant has.
We have been matching these colours and making our own multi-link Elmers.
We made bird feeders using lard, bird seed , cheese and raisins. We weighed the ingredients. We made the mixture carefully and put it into the pots. We took them home. We hope the birds will like their winter treat !
We have been sharing Elmer stories. We also painted our own Elmers for our Elmer display. We decorated our Elmers by painting patterns, printing with sponges and adding stickers.
Outside: We built a house with the crates and blocks.
We tasted pineapple and mangoes this week.
Both these fruits were in the story 'Handa's Surprise ' which we have been reading this week.
We talked about our senses and which senses we used for our fruit tasting.
This week we have been drawing with chalk in our outdoor area. We have enjoyed the climbing frame, wheeled toys and mud kitchen in our outdoor area this week. We have been reading the following stories; 'Owl Babies' , 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'Goldilocks and the three bears. We have enjoyed singing circle rhymes: 'The farmer's in his den' and 'Here we go round the mulberry bush'.
Today we have had a busy day making playdough and biscuit faces which allowed us to discuss skin tone. We have also been thinking about our families and who we have on our network (our protective behaviour hands).
We have settled into nursery really well this week and been really busy.
We have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Incey Wincey Spider' and making spider biscuits.
