Spirit Of The Wild - Reported by Keira, Chloe and Millie

On Friday 21st September 2018, the whole school took part in the spirit of the wild workshop.an animal expert came in to show us some exotic animals from all over the world!

First, we saw a rare golden eagle, two lucky year 6 pupils got to hold this fascinating bird of prey. They have impeccable eyesight that allows them to read a newspaper from the length of a football pitch.

Next, from the arctic circle, a snowy owl was introduced to us.  we heard a lot about what types of features it had and it has a remarkable skill to camouflage it’s self beneath the snow.

Afterwards, we came across the colour-changing chameleon. This extraordinary reptile has a reinforced tail that can wrap around anything.

Finally, we saw an adorable baby fruit bat and its habit of spitting out the bits of food that it doesn’t need is disgusting.

Year 5

Summer Term

Wednesday 25th April 2018

This week in English we have been using intonation, volume and emphasis to act out a scene from Macbeth in a Reader's Theatre style performance. Not only have we been getting into role as Macbeth and Banquo, we have been writing diary entries as Lady Macbeth, plotting King Duncan's death! We worked really hard on using words and phrases from the pre-twentieth century in our writing.

In Science we have started our new topic on Forces. We looked at the different types of forces and researched as to whether they were balanced or unbalanced.

We have also started our new module in IPC on Invaders and Settlers. We have been completing lots of art based activities around the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. We even took Viking style pictures and designed our own helmet, we enjoyed putting the pictures together and decorating our classroom with them.

Wednesday 18th April 2018

This week in English we have started our new unit of work on Shakespeare. We have been studying the very complex play of Macbeth! To help with our understanding, we created story maps/ timelines that retold the play in our own words. We also imagined we were walking through The Heath and used musical instruments to create a soundscape on what we would hear. We then went on to write setting descriptions.

In Science we have been working towards creating our own field guide on classifying organisms found in our local habitat. We went on a walk around the school field searching and identifying the different plants and animals in the school ground.

We were also very lucky to take part in a K'Nex Challenge. We worked in pairs to design and create a crane that lifted a weighted bucket up on to a box. We tested our cranes and our class winners were Millie D and Olivia. We had great fun becoming engineers for the afternoon!
